National Cadet Corps (NCC)
The aims of the NCC laid out in 1988 have stood the test of time and continue to meet the requirements expected of it in the current socio–economic scenario of the country. The NCC aims at developing character, comradeship, discipline, a secular outlook and the spirit of nationality. It helps cadets to improve their overall personality through developing leadership qualities, discipline, dedication and moral values.
The NCC Army wing unit of Sarvodaya Vidyalaya (1 Kerala Girls Battalion) comes under the Kerala and Lakshadweep Group Headquarters. The unit was started in September 2019 with 25 girl cadets and presently with a total strength of 50 cadets. The unit is headed by Third Officer Leena Narayanan.
Parades and theory classes as per the NCC syllabi are conducted on a regular basis as part of the training programmes. In addition to these basic training camps and interaction sessions are conducted via online and offline platforms. The sessions include personality development, anti-corruption, importance of physical fitness, cycling, etc. The cadets also participated in various competitions held by the Directorate.
Four girl cadets of the unit entered the final round of selection for the Republic Day parade in 2020 out of which one cadet was selected.
